Helping Steampunk decide what to sound like since 2017
the steam powered radio available from here
(ok so it's not strictly steam powered and not strictly a radio)
Van Riet, Peter
Music from "A Journey With Strange Bedfellows" might be more Steampunk than anything I've ever conceived but quite slow moving
Vencedor
Quite varied but all perfectly listenable. Some is almost Ochre records style others more lounge jazz. Eclectic.
Venoir, Vincent
Dark brooding. Hints of spy themed computer game music. Quite classical at the same time. Nice radio dial fiddling samples.
Venus de Vilo
Irish theatrical horror musician apparently. Slightly music hall but quite scratchy sounding
Vernian Process
I like this. Nice atmospheric piano. An orchestral tribute to a SNES game I don't recall despite being quite committed to the platfom which makes me think it wasn't so big in the UK but there is a computer game feel to the music.
Veronique Chevalier
Another Voltaire style Jewish folk cabaret act. Accordion driven
Victor and the Bully
I may have been somewhat critical of these in the past more for their bedside manner than their music but they have matured on both fronts.
Three albums and a compilation into their career the standout of their set is still the Steampunk hokey-cokey
Video, Vivian
Very 8 bit computer game feel- possibly for an early incarnation of Castlevania. Does have a track "Steampunk Stormcloud," but that's equally 8 bit which is perhaps the SP equivalent of electronic music
Viking Guitar
"Aurora Boleralis," is a nice relaxed guitar instrumental, "Sword from Stone," a little rockier
Viricide Filly
Quite electronic sounding and a bit hip hoppy. Features some frankly sinister My Little Pony samples.
Void Factory
From Twycross of zoo fame if bandcamp can be believed but what a French Microsoft sound designer is doing in the middle of Leicestershire nowhere is anyone's guess. Chillout lounge Jazz mainly.
Vourteque
One of those dancey swing affairs. Maybe my nemesis Doop was just ahead of its time. Electro Swing is a thing apparently.
Vulcan Tea Party
Nice and atmospheric ambience. "Cellar Floor," has a nice female vocal that is a kind of modern take on the jazz club singer with nints of Amanda Parmer.
