Helping Steampunk decide what to sound like since 2017
the steam powered radio available from here
(ok so it's not strictly steam powered and not strictly a radio)
Rahkoi
very 8 bit which isn't surprising for a computer game project
Rapskallian
a homage to the wonder years intro soon turns to New Orleans jazz muddled with sea shanty kind of fare
Rasputina
"My Fever Broke," in 2002, and to be fair I might not have found it that early was their first CD I stumbled across that sort of said steampunk to you when you looked at it. There was even victorian underwear and a clock on the cover. Music is generally semi-industrial and I believe she performed at the Bronze or at least ended up on the Buffy soundtrack. Pretty sure she wasn't wearing bloomers, I would have remembered.
Rattlesnake Whip
Immediately thinking New Model Army with mariachi band that Biffy Clyro used so effectively. Could be a soundtrack to spaghetti western which is probably genre appropriate so whilst not how I saw it 4 cogs. If you wanted something to support your Serenity fan fiction this might be it.
Rex, Rufus
Songs about madness and reanimation apparently. Cabaret Horror Punk I guess.
Reyes, William
acoutic guitar noodling.
Reyne, Jordan
Someone has tagged Jordan as Steampunk. I'm not sure if she did it herself as I don't know how these things work. She certainly supported the March Violets on their "Made Glorious," tour when by their own admission they were leaning to such things as my wife brought me the CD home. As something of a folkie these remind me of some of the best murder ballads I've heard but musically rather surprisingly the best comparison I can come up with is Cyndi Lauper's acoustic album "the Body Acoustic," for atmosphere.
Rhubarb Whiskey
Accordion folk with very nice female vocals
Right After the Experiment No. Q
Steampunk Italian style which has quite a metal edge but is pretty cool. Well worth some cogs.
Right Brain Tantrum
"Auditory Armament," seems to be a one off experiment on Steampunk but not a bad stab in an electronic kind of way.
Rineheart, Gary
Perfectly listenable Voltairesque country
Role, the
Not sure where this lot are trying to go and the album title looks Arabic or Hebrew. There certainly seems to be a Christian theme to this lot. Nice picture of a smashed mobile phone but quite bleepy enough to suggest rage against the modern machine rather than printing presses. Not unpleasant but little evidence of cogs and goggles.
Rootea
Another Russian act. Space rock, avane garde noodlings and glockenspiels.
Rose, Jen
quite noodly rock, slightly prog
Rose Mortician, the
Immediate thought is Moonchild style Goth albeit with a hint of the Dresden Dolls. Rather good
