Helping Steampunk decide what to sound like since 2017
the steam powered radio available from here
(ok so it's not strictly steam powered and not strictly a radio)
Pain Rills
Weird and Mexican. This might be what steampunk sound like I really don't know. I think it's got the building blocks.
Patience Airways
Piano driven Dresden Dolls meets Tori Amos material. This is what Steampunk should sound like.
Peculiar Pretzelmen, the
Cabaret jazz meets oompah, sort of. With gravely blues man vocals
Peros, John
what's not to like about a tune titled "this song got me pregnant," frenetic, samply, metal riffing guitars this has it all
Phantom Broadcast, the
Starts a bit Rage Against then goes a bit lounge crooner and a little Sexgang
Platform One
I instantly like these. They sound a bit 80s electro. Would definitely include them in a list of Goth bands not sure their steampunk credentials. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and presume they own goggles as i like them.
Platypus
a very busy sound that seems to cram multiple influences into its limited bandwidth including RDF style vocals and surf guitar. Quite a Ska/dub feel.
Plinth
Proper steam punk I guess. Atmospheric instrumentals that evoke Victoriana. "Victorian Machine Music," which is available through Bandcamp feels like an old music box.
Price, Matt
"The Rain," comes with a first Chapter of a story that features an Airship so this must be steampunk. Music is quite soundtrack like presumable to the story. Fairly minimalist
Professor Elemental
There appear to be a lot of steampunks working in universities given all of these Professors. The Elemental, as I will refer to him is a kind of 1920s swing rapper.
We got rather taken up by this particular professor during lockdown enthralled by his diss songs and time travelling adventures one of our daughters favourite steampunkn acts.
Has produced a number of concept albums capturing his adventures with his Orang Utan butler Geofrey.
Has produced some pretty impressive videos which I think can now be found at various corners of t'interweb.
Professor Gall
Steampunk gypsy folk
Professor Purblind
"Blue Spirit Blues," apparently features Marc Almond. Alt-cabaret with a slight Madchester feel
Prometheus Aflame
Quite a Fischerspooner feel. Now I think about it I think electroclash was halfway to steampunk. Time for the EC revival? Oh yes the reason for their inclusion? They have a track Steampunk Soul'd
Protocol: M
Album is called "Clockwork," which is a plus but on the downsize he's not wearing goggles on his promo shot. Good and Goth tinged
Psyche Corporation
Very much what Steampunk should sound like. Sinister music box stuff, haunting vocals... OK so they are a great Goth sounding band that look the part.
Purveyors of Free Will
Sounds like a libra vox recordng with ambient soundscapes going on in the background. Pretty listenable.
