Helping Steampunk decide what to sound like since 2017
the steam powered radio available from here
(ok so it's not strictly steam powered and not strictly a radio)
Hadrian's Union
Hadrian's Union played at the local of the chap who sits opposite me at work and have appeared at a variety of Steampunk events. "Aural Borderalis," is a very good folky type album with tinges of The Men They Couldn't Hang and I understand they wear bowler hats and goggles. Plenty of cogs.
Hamer, Alexandra
This is what Steampunk should sound like. Sinister musical boxes and music hall warblings. Anachronique is well worth a download
Hardy, Anne
Understated low-fi indie with growly female vocals. Tom Waits meets Tori Amos.
Hare and the Moon
Proper good old fashioned 80s creepy stuff. Wailing, music boxes the lot. Could easily come from a 70s British Film Council release.
Harriers of Dischord
Mrs Librarian reckons steampunk Ugly Kid Joe but I reckon its rather more banjo driven 50s Country. They reckon wild west surf punk mash-up
Harvey, Noah
"Steampunk," from the Noah Harvey EP is a grimey and sinister short instrumental. 2 and a half cogs at least.
Hat
Glokenspeil and piano it would seem
Heathen StrangeFellow & the VaudeVille Vagabonds
A steampunk attempt at rap. Musical accompaniment is OK and there are touches of Falco. A bit of a nu metal male speaky vocals operatic female but not quite doing it for me.
Helland, Scott
Picky acoustic guitar with quite a folk feel.
Hellbinki
Slightly gypsy infused cabaret but can go a bit bleepy of you take your eye off them.
Hi-Reprocity
Accordians and music boxes- what's not to like
Hollow, Johnny
"A Collection of Creatures," has a nice sinister start before going a bit breakbeat and trip hoppy. Would sit just as comfotably on Gothapedia but well worth a dabble.
Holloway, Ian
Steampunk inspired minimalist ambient
Housethegrate
quite proggy
Hugh, Violet
Another Asylum act who seems to be basically non-descript comedy music hall riddled with innuendo and booze references. Me and the Urchin caught a couple of tracks from her afternoon set but didn't really inspire.
Hunter, Shaun T.
Before there was the Captain there was Shaun T Hunter. He released at least 2 albums and you get the impression this particular phase of his career left a bit of a nasty taste.
Musically the most obvious comparison in my mind is the wonderful Stephen Tintin Duffy of Lilac Time fame. I have to say I can't help wondering whether there is an element of pot and kettle in "Danger."
Huxley Vertical Cabaret Nouveau
A bit like the Gothic Archie’s stuff. Accordian based cabaret songs. Hints of Voltaire
